Marvelli Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Sailors and Shamans, featuring new paintings by Peter Gallo, Nora Griffin and Daniel Ríos Rodríguez. The exhibition focuses on a conceptual and idiosyncratic approach to painting, dense with meaning and layers. The tactile, seductive quality of painting is present in all the works, but it is also associated with a more intellectual investigation of painting’s relationship with language, literature and art history.

Peter Gallo received a BA from Middlebury College in Vermont and an MA from Concordia University in Montréal. He is currently a doctoral fellow in Art History at Concordia University. Gallo is also a member of the Grass Roots Art and Community Effort (GRACE) of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Selected exhibitions include White Columns, Sunday L.E.S., Steven Kasher Gallery, and Horton Gallery in New York, Wendy Cooper Gallery in Chicago, Francis Reynolds Gallery in London. Peter Gallo lives and works in Vermont.

Nora Griffin received her MFA from Columbia University in 2011 and a BA with Honors in Studio Art from Oberlin College in 2001. This year she received the 2011 Edward F. Ablee Foundation Fellowship. In addition to painting, Nora curates exhibitions and writes art criticism for the Brooklyn Rail and Artcritical. She currently lives and works in New York.

Daniel Ríos Rodríguez received an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2007, and a BFA from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2005. He is currently having a solo show at White Columns in New York. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
