From Such a Velvet World it Comes: Paintings by Elizabeth Terhune
StandPipe Gallery, 150 W. 25th Street in East Chelsea, announces a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Elizabeth Terhune. Her first solo show in over five years, Terhune is one of New York’s leading avatars of a joyous, aesthetically free neo-fauvism. Her musical, vibrantly colored canvases push figuration to the very edge of abstraction, evoking undercurrents of still life and landscape while forefronting an investment in painterly process. Optimistic and lyrical yet complex and mature, Terhune’s work is deeply advanced yet profoundly approachable, a rare blend of avant-garde verve and visceral beauty. The show runs from Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, July 30th.
Opening reception: Thursday, June 23, 6 – 8PM.
