Artists in the exhibition include Davide Balula, Ellie Ga, Gelitin, Fritz Henle, Babette Mangolte, Corey McCorkle and Glynnis McDaris.
Drawing inspiration from the inveterate traveler and author Paul Bowles, You Have Left Your Lotus Pods on the Bus addresses artists who are using a geographic location as subject or collaborator. The show specifically focuses on work that features the artists’ experience, interaction, documentation, and reaction to new environments.
Work in the show ranges from Ellie Ga’s cast made aboard a research ship stationed in the Arctic Ocean where she lived and worked for a year and a half, to Fritz Henle’s photographs of petroglyphs found in the Caribbean, a place that fascinated him throughout his life, to Corey McCorkle’s sculpture, based on a 19th Century drawing of an American traveler touring Japan.
As an extension of the exhibition, there will be a free film screening at Anthology Film Archives (32 Second Avenue, NYC) on Tuesday, July 19th from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Artists in the screening will include Ellie Ga, Fritz Henle, Babette Mangolte, Corey McCorkle, Elisa Pone, Agnes Varda and others.
