In a culture of hyper-saturated digital technology, Joan Linder purposefully chooses to use the traditional medium of a quill pen and a bottle of ink to create large-scale images.
In her solo exhibition, Linder’s subjects include, she says, “banal, mass produced domestic artifacts; the politics of war; sexual identity and power; and the beauty disclosed in the close scrutiny of natural and man-made structures.” Nude self-portaits hang side by side with a moose, a soldier and the moon. The proximity of the disparate images inspires an investigation of both personal and political tension.
