Sayoko Hirano Bio : Sayoko Hirano is a woodcut artist and a live painter. Born in Kyoto in 1985, where she now resides. In 2007 she started making woodcut artwork which she has since exhibited in both solo and group shows. In 2009, Sayoko began her career as a live painter. For these hour-long performances she uses a 36 by 108 inch canvas.

Sayoko creates her artworks to express what she calls “the strong and healing energy” of animate things. More than anywhere else, she finds this energy and inspiration in the human body, so people are often included in her work. Objects of nature, such as trees and flowers, are also central motifs. Sayoko describes her artistic intent as“something organic, energetic and powerful.” And it is those ideas of natural power and energy that she cherishes in her life.

She hopes that people who view her art will see it as both something relaxing and something exciting, with enough power and energy to confirm the beauty of life.

WAG ~ Weekly Artist’s Gift

Art doesn’t just belong in the museum. It belongs everywhere: on the streets, in our homes, and everywhere we go.

So, each week at Ouchi we ask our artists to donate one of their pieces. We call it Weekly Artist’s Gift (WAG), and then we give it to you.

And of course, like every event at Ouchi, it’s free.

There are two ways to enter your name to win: 1) “Like” the current WAG photo album on Facebook 2) Sign-up at Ouchi Gallery (170 Tillary St., Suite 507, Bklyn)
