NYCAMS is please to present Swiss Bliss, a group exhibition featuring seven artists from Switzerland, which opens to the public on September 16 in the NYCAMS Gallery.
These 7 artists working in photography, sculpture, drawing, painting, video and installation, resist, subdue, deconstruct, explore, escape, celebrate, and critique the overly breathtaking but sometimes threatening landscape that surrounds them.
For centuries Swiss artists have been inspired by the dramatic and gorgeous landscape of their small European country. It is said that the painting by Swiss painter Konrad Witz called “The Miraculous Draught of Fishes” is one of the first “real” landscape paintings, where the landscape is a recognizable place and not painted from the imagination of the artist. The paintings’ setting takes place on the shores of lake Geneva with the Saleve Mountains in the background, but the biblical story that unfolds in the foreground is set on the shores of Galilee.
Gallery Hours: M-F 10 am to 4 pm, or by appointment. Contact: Janna Dyk 212.213.8052.
