Art Station Brings the Gallery to the Gas Station!
Rachel Stekson and Beth Fiore are pleased to present Art Station, on view at Lukoil in Chelsea from September 15th through September 22nd. During the run of the show, this Lukoil will still be a fully operational gas station.
The pop-up exhibition features the work of eleven Brooklyn-based artists (Jim Bearden, Kevin Bourgeois, Shannon Campbell, Elizabeth Cooper, Paul Crotty, Joseph Hume, Brittany Janaszak, M. Henry Jones, David Maddy, Jan Mollet, and Ian Pawelec) working across a variety of mediums from paintings to sculpture to “conceptual scent” (perfume) pieces. In addition to their unique works, each artist is also creating an inexpensive multiple, thus making art more accessible and affordable.
An opening reception for the artists will be held Thursday, September 15th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Big D’s Food Truck will be stationed outside and cellist Gabriel Royal will be performing. The reception also marks the release of the album cover and logo of “Christmas in the Summer”, a new album by The Hole gallery’s Derrick B. Harden and Laura O’Reilly.
The first of many organized Art Stations, Ms. Fiore and Ms. Stekson hope this exhibition forces its audience to challenge traditional views of contemporary art and artists, as well as conventional art gallery models. Merchandise designed by Ms. Fiore will be sold in conjunction with this inaugural exhibition.
