In 2010, a movement began, not with a a whimper, but with a rumble. Inspired by Maud Taber-Thomas and curated by Benjamin Christopher Martins, “Self Portrait as Monster Truck” was an opportunity for purest artistic expression, a framework upon which an artist could hang their individual expression, displaying their truest self projected upon a neutral subject. The upcoming “Self Portrait as Monster Truck Volume 2: The Reckoning” promises to up the artistic ante, with both muscle and heart on full display, featuring some of the most talented names of modern art alongside extraordinary emerging artists, to benefit K-12 Arts programs in Greater New York City. The question is not what kind of artist are you; rather, it is what kind of monster truck would you be?
