James Fuentes LLC is pleased to announce John McAllister’s forthcoming solo exhibition, Damned Sparkling Pomp.

The works in this exhibition are dynamic hybrid paintings that utilize canonical painterly strategies, updated by a modern “mash-up” of subject matter, color and technique. Inspired by walks in the artists environs of outer Los Angeles, events as universal as dusk, dawn, daylight and night are prevalent in the mood of these works. Depicted are idealized landscapes, dwellings, artists studios and objects. Often incorporating multiple fields of imagery within one frame, these images within images are evocative of the fractured nature of memory. The resultant paintings offer a celebratory confluence of inspiration, desire and timelessness.

John McAllister is a 2007 MFA graduate from the Art Center College of Design and a 2007 Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA grant recipient. In 2011, he will have participated in group exhibitions at The Rubell Family Collection/Contemporary Arts Foundation, Miami, Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles, David Kordansky, Los Angeles and White Flag Projects, Saint Louis and held solo exhibitions at Ribordy Contemporary, Geneva. He was born in Slidell, Louisiana and is based in Los Angeles, California.
