Featuring 12 oil on linen paintings and one life-size pastel. All works were completed over three years, Altfest focuses her attention on natural objects both in the studio and in the wild: cacti, a tumbleweed, a stack of logs and driftwood on the floor.
Ellen Altfest received an MFA from Yale University. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2002) and received a fellowship from The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA (2000). She recently attended the Dorland Mountain Art Center in the foothills of Temecula, CA. Her work has been written about in Art and Auction, Art Review, Paper, The Village Voice, and The New York Times.
