A PERFORMA COMMISSION FOR PERFORMA 11
ON VIEW EVERY WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY 2 – 8 PM
Artists Mika Rottenberg and Jon Kessler will collaborate to present the major Performa commission,SEVEN, a performance and installation that stretches from the urban landscape of New York to the savannahs of Africa. Mixing Kessler’s kinetic sculptures with Rottenberg’s absurdist videos, SEVEN will collapse film time and real time to create an intricate laboratory that channels bodily fluids and colors into a spectacle on the African savannah. In New York, a “Chakra Juicer” will capture sweat from seven performers engaging in ritualistic, athletic activity.
Performa 11 (November 1–21, 2011) is the fourth edition of the internationally acclaimed biennial of new visual art performance presented by Performa, the leading organization dedicated to exploring the critical role of live performance in the history of twentieth-century art and to encouraging new directions in performance for the twenty-first century.
Supported by Performa Producers Circle member Salon 94, Office of Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of Israel in NY, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, The Dedalus Foundation, and NIROX Foundation. Produced with the cooperation of the Government of Botswana.
