Announcing XYZ-NYC 10 Downing- An exhibition by Australian artists Leslie Eastman and Natasha Johns-Messenger. A long time collaborative team, their work has historically focused on exploring real and perceived space through interventions in interior architecture.

XYZ is Natasha Johns-Messenger and Leslie Eastman.

For XYZ-NYC 10 Downing, the pair challenges the perception of visitors through optical illusion devices and installations designed to force visitors to experience and interpret alternate points of view.

Some of the works blur the boundaries between real and represented space. Their works rely on the interaction of the participant with architecturally-scaled spaces in which both the viewer and the surrounding environment are strategically displaced in myriad ways.

The work seeks to challenge the participants’ experience of a particular site, as well as their experience of the act of looking itself. The encounter produced is at once both intimate and dramatic and has a poetic and philosophical dimension that questions the nature of the real and the limits of the self.

Natasha has worked with NLE before, presenting one of the most popular art pieces at NLE’s past exhibit The Sixth Sense, a mirrored installation which bisected the room and challenged the viewer’s conceptual vision.

The site, 10 Downing Street.

Stonehenge Partners has donated a space in the heart of the West Village- the neighborhood where bohemian culture was born and trendsetters still thrive. Amongst the various panels, and artist talks, we seek to question the importance of such a trendsetting neighborhood, including its various birthed movements, and how the original population has moved on, changing the overall perception of this cultural birth site.
