“Brilliant Universe, to me, means to feel all of the Universe’s existence. Flowers are my ideal love. When I first face the white surface, I don’t know what will appear. I wait for the message from the god of the Universe, my heart pounding. I start to draw. As I think and feel the unexpected world starts expanding. I am now able to think how happy I am to express myself in this condition.

I was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. World War II ended when I was only 2 years old. The new era started, but I remember that hard time recovering from the war. When I was around 20 years old Japan’s economy began to grow quickly and the country modernized.

I am a self-taught artist. My grandfather was a very good painter. My father, also a painter, took me out to make landscape paintings. At the age of 62, my father passed away of a heart attack. I raised 3 children. When I was 35 years old, when my children were grown, I started my own work again and returned to art.

Since then I have been accepted to several important group shows, including Contemporary Japanese Art, Nippon International Show and a Chinese-Japanese Show. I have also had over 50 solo shows including one in New York City. I am very happy to make my second New York City solo show at Gallery Onetwentyeight.” Sakurako Suzuki
