Spattered Columns, an exhibition space operated by the nonprofit organization Art Connects New York (ACNY), is pleased to announce the opening of “Here and Everywhere”, on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012. This juried group exhibition features New York City-area Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) alumni. Curated by local artists and MICA alums Colette Robbins ‘03 and Micah Ganske ‘03, “Here and Everywhere” highlights 17 emerging and established artists and aims to bring notice to work that merits attention for its originality and desire to step outside the expected but that, in the right context, is still relevant within contemporary discourses. The exhibition features photography, painting, sculpture, performance art, video, and installation.

Exhibiting artists include: Allan Baillie ‘69, Seth Cohen ’03, Elisa Decker ‘74, Jake Dibeler ‘10, Nicolas Djandji ‘08, Emily Gibson ‘96, Melanie Jelacic ‘99, Eric Lo Presti ‘02, Visakh Menon ‘07, Joseph Nero ‘84, Courtney Puckett ‘02, William Reed ‘06, Alyse Ronayne ‘08, Lisa Schilling ‘02, Joshua Schwartz ‘06, Ned Snider ’99, and Chaney Lane Trotter ‘10.

The opening reception for “Here and Everywhere” will take place from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 at Spattered Columns, 491 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10012, and will feature a live performance event by participating artist Jake Dibeler. The show will run until February 1, 2012.

About Art Connects New York (ACNY) seeks to enrich the lives of New Yorkers by making original visual artwork more readily available in non-traditional settings. ACNY offers two programs: The Art Placement Program that permanently places donated artwork created by New York City-based artists in public areas of social service agencies in all the city’s five boroughs and Spattered Columns, a white wall exhibition space that presents the work of New York City-based artists who do not have commercial gallery representation.

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) was founded in 1826 and is the oldest continuously degree-granting college of art and design in the nation. MICA enrolls more than 2,000 undergraduate, graduate, and continuing studies students from 46 states and 53 countries in fine arts, design, electronic media, art education, liberal arts, and professional studies degree and non-credit programs. Redefining art and design education, MICA is pioneering interdisciplinary approaches to problem solving, research, and community and social engagement. Alumni and programming reach around the globe, even as MICA remains a cultural cornerstone in the Baltimore/Washington region, hosting hundreds of exhibitions and events annually by students, faculty, and other established artists.

This program is supported, in part, by public Funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in Partnerships with the City Council.
