Bose Pacia is pleased to present the first installment of Transparent Studio with Ruby Chishti. The artist will occupy the gallery space from March 6 through April 5 during which time the public is invited to view the work in progress in the open studio space. We encourage visitors to stop by to see the artist in action. The studio residency term will culminate in an evening with the artist on Thursday, April 5 during the Dumbo First Thursdays evening event.

Ruby Chishti’s sculpture based art practice has spanned over twelve years. She graduated from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan and was recently awarded the Faiz Art Prize by Nukta Art Magazine in Karachi, Pakistan. Her work has been exhibited in numerous national and international galleries and venues including Aicon Gallery, London, Twelve Gates Gallery, Philadelphia, Rohtas II, Lahore and Green Cardamom Gallery, London. Chishti’s lyrical sculptures and installations touch on issues of gender politics, identity, love, loss, social isolation and the authority of religion and have garnered huge critical acclaim and public attention. Ruby Chishti was born and raised in Pakistan. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Project Description Ruby’s residency will consist of two phases. In the first phase, the artist will develop a series of drawings and create dresses that will eventually be transformed into sculpture and vice versa. In doing so, the artist positions fashion as an appropriate arena to investigate the complexities of modern life. Her installation will explore the innate connections between opposites such as despair and optimism, beauty and horror, fashion and mortality and desire and anxiety. In the second phase, Ruby will transform printed materials, such as exhibition announcement cards, brochures and catalogs, into fanciful objects called “shoes” collected during her visits to art galleries and museums in New York City. Ruby will supplement her installation with a short video that will document her journey from her home to art institutions in the city to engage in the act of voyeurism while negotiating private and public studio art practice.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 to 6 pm and Saturday 12 to 6. There will be open studio evenings with the artists on February 2, March 1, and April 5 from 6 to 8 pm. The artist will be in attendance and the public is invited.
