A Postcard from Afar: North Korea from a Distance, curated by Mark Feary, attempts to give some form to North Korea, a country shrouded in secrecy and closed off from the rest of the world. Using the sparse accounts provided by declassified and military documents and the plethora of propaganda issued by the North Korean state, the artists in A Postcard from Afar create their own images and understanding of what lies beyond the DMZ. As Feary puts it, “this project does not present a steadfast and moralistic political position, but rather, explores how one might construct an image of an almost imaginary state.”
