Join Exit Art in the celebration of its Printed Histories with Artist Collective Goldmine S**thouse. Exit Art’s Silkscreen Thrown Down with GMSH features original screens by founding members, David Hochbaum, Travis Lindquist, and Colin Burns. For $5, GMSH will print on anything you bring, from t-shirts to bags to the clothes on your back, so be sure to bring all your goodies to get these amazing prints on your wares!
GMSH’s primary focus is on painting, drawing, and collage, but has extended into the realm of video and music/punk rock art noise (Murder Baby). The collective work deals with sometimes violent and difficult themes, filtered through their inexhaustible sense of humor. The contrast of horror and comedy creates a paradox that is relevant, entertaining, and infectious. There are reoccurring themes and symbols throughout the work, including death, bunnies, ladders to nowhere, black hearts and clouds, among many others. The visual elements are derived from a variety of sources, including classical references, the artists’ own sketchbooks, as well as a smorgasbord of popular culture.
This event is free and open to the public. It will be held from 1-6 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Exit Art (475 Tenth Ave at 36th Street). For general inquiries contact Aimee Chan Lindquist at [email protected] or 212-966-7745.
