WATERHOUSE & DODD, New York is pleased to announce Norman Mooney: New Work an exhibition of new wall sculptures and drawings which explore the natural world through a physical indulgence in the process of making. It is Mooney’s first solo show with the gallery.

Norman’s work is at once physical and metaphysical. His works explore the elemental and cyclical synergies of nature. Materiality, pattern, scale and experience are key concerns within his practice. Norman’s methodology is one of experimentation and process The new Sun series, laser cut drawings in stainless steel and bronze sheet, stacked layer upon layer appear to be in a constant state of motion. The Star series, cast translucent glass in vibrant colors, employs light and shadow as its main medium pushing the work beyound the limits of its physical form. Norman challenges our relationship with nature, questioning our inertial frame of reference and engaging us in a heighten awarness of the present.

Norman Mooney was born in Ireland in 1971. He earned a BFA degree at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. An internationally recognized sculptor and installation artist, Mooney has completed a number of large-scale permanent installations both in New York and Europe including Glass Wall #3, a three-ton hand poured cast glass installation at the Isles Residence, New York. He is the recipient of numerous art prizes and commissions and has exhibited most recently at the Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros Museum in Mexico City. His work can be found in numerous collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Art.
