For March 10 – March 31, 2012, 1:1 is proud to present the film and production images of Marie Losier and Leigha Mason. This special exhibition also marks the debut of the new space, 1:1.
Marie Losier is a filmmaker and curator, born in France and living in New York City. This month will see the NYC theatrical premier of The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, her 16mm feature length film portrait of the love story of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge. Losier has also made aesthetically complex and playfully expository film portraits of other artists, two of which (the late George Kuchar and Tony Conrad) will be on display at 1:1 throughout the exhibition, accompanied by printed still portraits made during Losier’s other productions.
Leigha Mason is a painter and filmmaker living in New York City, actively engaged in deconstructing the political implications of aesthetics and representation. On display will be an installation version of reels from Mason’s 16mm film inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s first full length play Baal. Mason is half of the performative group ROT, and a founding co-director of the 1:1 project space.
1:1 is an artist-run project, exhibition, & events space located at 121 Essex St. Our primary concern is contemporary conceptual stances within a social context; an attitude of resistance that is actively pleasurable. We work with film, video, drawing, painting, sculpture, and performance, in tandem with frequent events.
