Jean-Luc Blanc’s drawings compile what is already there: images he extracts from films, postcards, press photographs, magazines and leaflets. The images form an inventory, which, according to the artist, measures up to a common scandal, completely garish, one that belongs to an indeterminate and yet definitive space, somewhere in between an illumination and a pigsty.
Blanc was born in France, in 1965, and currently lives in Paris, France. He received his MFA from the Villa Arson in Nice, France. He has had solo exhibitions in Paris, Marseille, Athens, Montreal, Zurich, and most recently at the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCO) in Geneva. He has also been included in numerous group exhibitions in France, Monaco, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States.
