Artist Cheryl Parry collaborates with choreographer/dancer Mary-Clare McKenna, and playwright/actor & performance artist LuLu LoLo for an art exhibition/installation, film, dance performance and monologue to explore the lesser-known history of the Magdalene Laundries. Over a period of 150 years, an estimated 30,000 women were forced to work in the Catholic convent-run laundries in Ireland, doing penance through the symbolic labor of laundering to repent for their “sins”. Unwed mothers were forced to give their children up for adoption; many of these children were sent to the United States. The evening performance includes dancers Janet Aisawa, Kristin Hatleberg, Muriel Ote, and Emily Winkler-Morey. Funding has been made possible by the Puffin Foundation. Friday, April 6, 2012 from 6:30 – 9:30 PM and Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 3:30 – 9:30 PM. Gallery hours 4/6 – 6:30 to 9:30 PM & 4/7 – 3:30 to 9:30 PM. Live performances April 6 & 7 begin at 7:30 PM with a reception Post-performance @ 8:45 PM – 9:30 PM. Admission is free.
