The Cuban Artists Fund (CAF) is a 501©3 not-for-profit organization committed to supporting artists of Cuban ancestry, and providing the public with programs aimed at creating broader appreciation for Cuban arts and its global impact both historically and in today’s society. Specifically, CAF supports artists by helping to identify resources and people to create networks for Cuban artists, arts and culture groups and cultural exchanges. CAF has a particular focus on presenting and nurturing artistic work by Cuban artists in New York City.

Artists’ Bios:

Aravade (Canada) – www.qbava.com

Aravade is a photographer and musician currently living and working in Toronto, Canada. Through the dismissal of digital manipulation, Aravade provides viewers with an honest view of Cuban reality.

César Alfonso (USA) – www.cesaralfonso.com

César Alfonso is a physician, artist, and educator teaching in medical schools in the United States, China and Thailand. Working in the medium of assemblages, Alfonso seeks to deconstruct the notion of technology and society before cyberspace.

Jesús Rivera (USA) – www.mainislandart.com

Jesús Rivera is an artist not limited to a singular media, working with paintings, sculptures, drawings, and utilitarian art. Rivera’s work has been exhibited internationally and focuses on whimsically manipulating human comprehension by transgressing the boundaries that delineate our conventional sense of aesthetics. Rivera currently lives and works in New Jersey.

Augustin Rolando Rojas (Canada) – www.augustinrolandorojas.com

Augustin Rolando Rojas was formally trained in printmaking at the University of Fine Arts in Havana, and currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. Rojas has exhibited internationally and is considered to be the most prominent living Cuban printmaking artist.

Raúl Villarreal (USA) – www.raulvillarreal.com

Raúl Villarreal has had a prolific career spanning over 20 years, including many solo exhibitions of his work and being a published author. Villarreal’s work addresses issues of identity, multiculturalism and ‘transculturalism’ through the use of family photographs and appropriated imagery.
