Sacre Bleu! Or, Camembert 8 Euro, is a provocative performance-as-research project that walks the line between dance theatre and performance art. Sparked by a visit to Amsterdam’s famous Red Light District, the work examines the implications of putting the body on display and asks what it means to be looked at. chashama’s storefront window space provides the perfect location for these investigations in real time.
Artists Bio: Jessica Bonenfant has been the Creative Director of Brooklyn based Lola Lola Dance Theatre (formerly Odonata Dance Project) since 2003. Her work, a blend of movement, text and striking imagery, has been seen across the U.S. in a variety of traditional and site-specific spaces, as well as on film. Jessica holds an MFA in chorography from University of Michigan and a BA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College. She has taught dance technique, composition and improvisation courses at UofM, as well as choreographed numerous theatrical productions at University of Toledo (OH), where she will direct a main-stage production in the fall. She is a certified yoga teacher and a member of Contemplative Dance Practice/NYC, a group that practices improvisation grounded in Buddhist philosophy.
This project was initially developed at Performing Arts Forum in St. Erme, France and would not be possible without support from The Micro Museum and Mark’s Bookkeeping Services. This installment is supported in part by a grant from The National Endowment for the Arts.
