Meg Lipke’s solo show features a new series of large abstract paintings. These works may be read as landscapes in imaginary, timeless space. Mysterious glyphs suddenly present themselves, evoking atmosphere, mazes, topography and anatomical imagery, hovering amid delicate planes of muted colors. These enigmatic forms seem to refer to systems of circulation both on the earth and in the body.
Lipke’s preoccupation with maps, mazes, and anatomy stems from her intense interest in the process of moving through time, space, emotions and events. She strives in her work to create a world which exists on its own, as a symbolic place. This place, though vivid and substantial, is unfettered by concrete representation or narrative.
Lipke holds an M.F.A in painting from Cornell University. She has had solo exhibitions at 55 Mercer Gallery and lives and works in Brooklyn.
