Matthew Lusk makes sculptures and installations that explore conflations of American identities and confusions of specific spaces.

He instigates architectural interventions that provide a newly altered space that bears the context for each specific installation of new work. Matthew has also organized several group projects in this vein, the most recent being No Apology for Breathing at Jack the Pelican Presents in 2005, and Some Exhaust at Lehmann Maupin in the summer of 2004.

For this project at Outrageous Look, he offers a scene full of ambivalent states: bankruptcy and redemption, patriotism and theft, optimism and despair, chivalry and thuggery … all within the guise of a storefront display of hats.

Matthew Lusk received his M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
