A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Recent Work by Kathleen Schneider from May 23 – June 17, 2012. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 24 from 6 -8pm.

New sculpture and works on paper in this exhibition extend the imagery, materials and methods of manipulating materials employed in earlier pieces from the Petals and Wings series and easily identify themselves as relatives of the paper warplane arrays, exploded bouquet clusters, and gridded helicopters from 2009-10.

The new work continues the artist’s engagement with locating gesture and movement (implied-action, stopped-action, incremental transformation) in sculptures that are hand-made, mult-part, richly articulated, geometric/biomorphic conglomerates. All new pieces feature “equal and opposing actions happening at the same time” and embody the characteristics of simultaneity. The sculptures fluctuate in imagery and appearance between the recognizable and abstract while their structural integrity shifts between the fixed and mutable. Highly tactile surfaces and discontinuous edges/boundaries suggest the possibility for reconfiguration.
