Show #4 Minute Militia

Join us Thursday, May 24th, for the opening of Field Projects Show #4: Minutia Militia. The works in this exhibition were recently selected by NYFA curator David C. Terry from our first nation-wide Open Call. Ten artists were selected for Show #4 based upon their stellar work and art practice including, Alexis Arnold, Caleb Brown, Cat Del Buono, Kristina Estell, Jason Lujan, Melissa Potter, Anna Souvorov, Christina Tenaglia, Cyane Tornatzky, and Elissa Turnbull. The works in this exhibition play upon simple manipulations or adjustments to once recognizable situations, forms and imagery. From Kristina Estell’s exquisitely created watercolor paintings of bubble wrap and Melissa Potter’s tricked-out baby carriage, to Anna Souvorov’s pink sunsets of crashed airplanes. These artists are a new militia of talent, teeth and perseverance in the art world.

In addition to the artists chosen for Show #4: Minutia Militia, ten runners-up were selected and highlighted on our website this month. These artists include Heather Brammeier, Suzanne Broughel, Derek Coté, Allison Edge, John Hampshire, Deirdre McAdams, Jason Seeley, Brian Spolans, Andrea Wolf, and Bradley Wood.

David C. Terry is the Senior Program Officer/Curator in the Programs and Awards Department, and manager of the Fellowship and Curatorial Programs at the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). Mr. Terry is a working artist, curator, juror, and a panelist for the New York State Council on the Arts, the Bronx Council on the Arts, the Westchester Biennale, the Alexander Rutsch Award in Painting, and the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence Program.

As an artist-run space, Field Projects is committed to opening the field and exhibition opportunities to other working artists through our semiannual Open Call to artists. All of the submissions we receive are considered not only for a single group exhibition but also for shows throughout the year. The theme of each Open Call is unscripted, allowing our guest curators free reign to choose the participants and thematic content of each unique show.
