Blown Away is a solo exhibition which highlights the work of abstract printmaker Tara Mhella. Inspired by the African American tradition of repurposing found objects, Mhella embellishes her prints with feathers, devalued currency, fallen leaves, plumbing washers and more. Mhella uses color and line in her art to express beauty, love, pain, and forgiveness. Although abstract in it’s depiction, her work is informed by her childhood experiences of dirt roads, crimson soil, pastures and golden sun rays, it is also rooted in her interactions with people and places beyond the American South. At it’s core, Mhella’s work is about love for family, community, and the Earth.

Artist’s Bio: Tara Mhella is a printmaker, writer and educator. Born and raised in Lowndes County, Alabama, Mhella started her professional career as an Attorney, before becoming an educator. Mhella found her ultimate love in print making and is constantly developing her technique and skills. She says of her work, “each time I roll out the inks to create textures and tones, time and space disappears, and I become one with the universe. Creating art balances my life and provides harmony with the world around me.”
