At What Price is a project Kellie Murphy has contemplated for quite some time with a fair amount of apprehension and perhaps for a good reason. At What Price addresses many of the uncomfortable concerns that visual artists have today, at what price am I an Artist? a Marketer? a Spokesperson? a Shape Shifter?
In this very small and personable venue, Murphy is not only asking questions surrounding the traditional type of studio practicel she is also stretching her attention to include the outside… and the future. She is interested in engaging the public in real time. In the hustle and bustle of New York City’s fashion district, will anyone find the time to stop in, say hi and volunteer to fill out a brief survey?
Murphy is first and foremost a deeply creative person and intuitive being. Preffering the solitude of her studio, her sculptures, drawings and installations share a visual language that is as varied and diverse as he materials with which they are created. This curious exploration is the cornerstone of her creative process yeilding gently subversive pieces that cross pollinate science, popular culture and personal visions.
Artist’s Bio: Kellie Murphy is an award winning artist and has exhibited in the U.S. and China. She recieved her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and BA from SUNY/Empire State. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
