Habit: A Video Festival Spattered Columns, SoHo, 491 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York NY June 13th, 7:30pm
In conjunction with the exhibition Deconstructing the Habit, Angela Washko has organized HABIT: A Video Festival at Spattered Columns. The short videos presented in this program question the reality that we are passively consuming and the dangerous confines of systematic expectations regarding acceptable lifestyle choices. How can the artist subvert these societal paradigms? The artists included in HABIT create realistic fictions and diaristic narratives based on real-life experiences in combination with bizarre surrealism and hyperbole. Their videos upset traditional gender and/or age roles and expectations, consequently questioning the impact that representations of women and men in the media have on the American psyche.
HABIT: A Video Festival is curated by Angela Washko and features video works by Pauline Bastard, Mike Bonanno (The Yes Men), Kerry Downey, Dynasty Handbag, Ann Hirsch, Jaime Iglehart, Sunita Prasad, Robby Rackleff, Nathaniel Sullivan, The Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness, and Angela Washko
