Seeking to examine and redefine American identity in the face of looming panculturalism, the diverse group of artists in “The Good American” presents a part satirical part genuine portrait of American culture and the various stereotypes which make up this vast landscape.

Is there a such thing as being an American, let alone a good one, anymore? What are the governing ideals of the new American dream? With digital communities on the verge of usurping nationalistic affiliations– and digital identities threatening to replace our corporeal ones — the sense of what it means to be an American has become increasingly imperiled.

This exhibition seeks to give a face to the good American and also articulate that there still exists a creative counterculture of society – full of curiosity, spirit, and humor. The Good American showcases a selection of those artists, the remaining few, who continue to branch out into the lost landscape of America: an endangered gold rush of landscapes, portraits, still lifes, objects, and metaphors.
