Index Art Center is pleased to present “Temporary Bodies” a site-specific installation by artist Gianluca Bianchino. Bianchino will envelop the entire space of the gallery with his sculptural installation that consists of both two and three dimensional forms comprised of paint, paper, lights, projections and sculptural elements that are used to create a multi-media landscape. The forms are combined to establish an ambiguous space that alludes to questions of identity and similar existential concerns, moving the genre of landscape forward into new, allusionistic territory that refers not only to our surroundings on planet earth, but also physics and the universe. At the same time, Bianchino draws upon prior art movements such as Cubism, Surrealism and Constructivism which are similarly concerned with shape, space and form. The exhibition is curated by Jeanne Brasile.

Curator Jeanne Brasile notes that Bianchino’s background in architecture lends naturally to working in installation formats. “He has an affinity for space and materials that stems from his previous architectural studies. This gives his work a sensitivity in responding to the specific architecture of the galley and provides an advantage in envisioning and creating the final composition. ”
