Looking to showcase the artistic and historical distinctiveness of Japan’s southernmost prefecture, The Nippon Club is delighted to host the Okinawan Art Exhibition in cooperation with Mr. Naoki Onaga, former Deputy Director of the Okinawa Prefectural Museum. Okinawa has developed this complexity through a remarkable journey and resilience through mass emigration and the following occupation of World War II. These and other factors over the years have had a profound effect on the people, culture, and ultimately the contemporary art of Okinawa. This exhibition will introduce the works of incredibly talented world-renowned artists hailing from Okinawa. It is our great hope that through this exhibition, visitors develop a better understanding and appreciation of the people, culture, and arts of Okinawa.
