On July 12th, Featured Artist Tate Foley presents 100% Stratification Guaranteed or Your Money Back, a solo exhibition at RAC.
Foley’s art in 100% Stratification Guaranteed or Your Money Back explores human relationships as they relate to accessibility to resources. When equal access is available to an entire society, social progress and collaboration can flourish. All too often, however, small contingencies of the populace seize and restrict these avenues of access for personal gain. Material wealth is the most obvious example, but this growing list of resources includes education, location, technology, political beliefs, personal values, cultural upbringing, ancestry, and race. Foley creates two-dimensional works, artist’s books, and objects that examine the schism between classes. 100% glorifies differences, shows similarities between seemingly disparate factions, and asks viewers to confront these schisms head on.
Tate Foley was born in Millerton, a small rural town in Northcentral Pennsylvania. He currently lives and works in St. Louis, Missouri, where he is an Assistant Professor of Art/Visiting Artist at the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts at Webster University. In 2007, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and in 2010, he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He has exhibited extensively across the United States, including recent solo and group shows in New York City, Washington, DC, Portland, St. Louis, and Cleveland.
