Jeff Bailey gallery is pleased to present, Up Do, a group exhibition of sculpture and painting, curated by Katia Rosenthal and featuring the work of Stacy Fisher, Joanne Greenbaum, Ann Kelly, Sarah Mattes, Nathlie Provosty, Alyse Ronayne and Tracy Thomason.

As imperative phrases, Up! and Do! are action-oriented, and suggest movement or performance. When combined, the words characterize an elaborate way to prepare one’s hair for a special occasion.

The artists in the exhibition demand something similar of their materials, pushing their physical limits and dressing them up for the event. Traditional materials like wood, stone, paper, metal, ceramic and paint may be combined with unexpected ones such as hair gel, mascara, vinyl, Mylar and concrete. Aesthetic transformations occur, and result in combinations that veer between the figurative and abstract, casual and fanciful, decorative and grotesque.
