The Brooklyn-based brothers, Steven & William Ladd use locally-sourced materials to create energetic, meticulously crafted installations inspired by their shared childhood memories and life experiences.
In Shaboygen, they recall the memory of narrowly escaping a fiery death one morning when their car was suddenly engulfed in flames while they were on their way to school. Using intricately sewn, handmade boxes, the brothers resurrect this traumatic event. The delicate textile landscape appears painstaking yet spontaneous, creating an intimate, emotional piece that reflects the creative process behind the work, as well as the personal story it recalls.
