Berkeley College is exhibiting the work of Omar Abbas, a recent graduate of East Carolina University (ECU), at its New York City Midtown Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street. This exhibit is on display from August 6 through 31 – Monday through Friday – from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, August 9, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
“ECU has one of the finest art departments in the country, and the number and quality of young artists it produces – including Mr. Abbas – is very impressive,” said Robert Keiber, Berkeley College Gallery Curator.
Mr. Abbas has been immersed in art for as long as he can remember. He hails from Newark, NJ, and graduated from ECU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art in Illustration. At the university, he was accepted in the Honors Program, worked as an illustrator for its Expression magazine, and also was accepted into its Italy Intensives Program in Certaldo, Italy.
His work has created much excitement among his peers, and he held a solo exhibition of his paintings at the Above Tipsy Teapot in Greenville. Group exhibitions, also in Greenville, include the National Juried Art Exhibition, Pitts County Arts Council at Emerge; the Italy Intensive Study Abroad Show, Burroughs Wellcome Gallery, ECU; and the Greenville Museum of Art. He holds a number of awards, including first place in painting and drawing, Rebel 54, Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge; and first place in painting, Undergraduate Exhibition, Wellington B. Gray Gallery at ECU.
