In the two weeks prior to the performance 40 Dancers do 40 Dances for the Dancers, Clarinda Mac Low will be meeting with potential audience members to discuss the piece, the ideas behind the piece, how they think of building community, and anything else that comes up. The storefront nature of the space turns a discussion about performance into a performance itself. Appointments are available every half an hour.

40 Dancers do 40 Dances for the Dancers is a series of performances based on The Pronouns: A collection of 40 Dances for the Dancers, a book of performance instruction poems written by poet/composer/multimedia artist Jackson Mac Low. The performance takes place as a celebration of what would have been his 90th birthday. The piece, part of an investigation into how art making forms communities, will be a celebration of Jackson’s work, a love letter to Clarinda’s dance community, and the recreation of a child’s eye view of the 1970’s New York “avant-garde” arts world. The performance will take place September 13 – 15, 2012 at Danspace Project.
