Scaramouche is pleased to present the first New York solo show of Arlen Austin. In a series of sculptures, paintings, furniture installations, and texts, Austin explores valences of the concept of insurrection within the history of twentieth century art and contemporary social upheaval. Insurrection is posited as the provision and sustenance of modes of communization in the face of increasing economic austerity and police violence; specifically, the project argues for a new left social movement sustained by the proliferation of communes dedicated to all-age leftist daycare.
