The Gabarron Foundation, in honor of its 10th Anniversary, is pleased to present “Two Hemispheres”, an exhibition of young contemporary American and Spanish artists. The purpose of this special exhibition is for American artists from New York to build a cultural dialogue with their fellow Spanish artists, recognizing the strong link among the United States, Latin America, and Spain. The artwork will be on view until November 29th and will then be sent to the Foundation’s other galleries in Spain for additional exhibitions, where they will become part of The Gabarron Foundation Contemporary Art Collection. The Opening Reception at the Carriage House will be held on Friday, September 14th, from 6 to 8 pm. All are welcome to attend so long as they RSVP to [email protected] or call 212-573-6968 prior to the date.

With just over 300 works of art entered in the contest, this exhibition will be comprised of works by twenty-six up-and-coming artists from the New York area, as well as seven artists from Spain. Their works were selected based upon the decision of a jury, which included the following distinguished persons:

Cris Gabarrón, President of The Gabarron Foundation Jason Edward Kaufman, notable arts journalist Heidi Lee, director of Waterhouse and Dodd Contemporary NY Cay Sophie Rabinowitz, contemporary art writer, curator, and producer Elga Wimmer, curator and president of Elga Wimmer PCC Gallery

In addition, the Foundation launched a Social Media Art Contest to encourage their fans to vote for their favorite work of art to be included in the exhibition. Ultimately, thirty-two winners were selected by a jury and one winner was selected via the Social Media Contest. “Two Hemispheres” is the first in a series of exhibitions that is to take place here in the City of New York, and subsequently in Spain.

The New York and Spanish winners of the “Two Hemispheres” Art Contest are the following:

The Gabarron Foundation was established in Spain in 1992, inspired by the ideals of its founder, the Spanish artist Cristóbal Gabarrón: to educate and teach while at the same time defend, support, and disseminate Culture in its most varied forms. The Foundation’s growth over the past 20 years has been guided by its mission to “raise awareness through the arts.” The Gabarron Foundation organizes and presents annual programs through its centers and museums in Spain and the United States. The Carriage House Center for the Arts is The Gabarron Foundation’s New York headquarters. Since 2002 the Carriage House has advanced as a platform for the cross-fertilization of Hispanic and Latin American cultures in the United States. The International Awards program was created in 2002 to coincide with The Foundation’s 10th Anniversary, and it has since become an annual event of global proportion, broadcast live worldwide. The Awards recognizes some of the greatest luminaries of our time, ninety award recipients in the past decade, whose work and career trajectories are committed to the defense of those values that constitute the essential principles of The Gabarron Foundation itself.
