The second exhibition in the Neal Marlens and Carol Black series is ‘Growing Pains’. The television show Growing Pains focused on the Seaver family, a late 80’s neo-nuclear unit that reveled in fun, friendship, shenanigans, and ultimately family bonding with a bit of drama mixed in. Similar to The Wonder Years, the title Growing Pains connotes a certain developmental time period. Though unlike The Wonder Years, theirs is one of maturing, learning, and experiencing that is very much present tense rather than nostalgic. When the show aired, the era was the same in the show as it was for the viewer allowing for an easy, familiar analogy. The Seavers were nothing if not relatable.
Drawing loosely from the television show that is its namesake, this exhibition brings together three artists that, at the outset, share an interest in surfaces both physical and conceptual.
Participating Artists: Joshua Schwartz, Tracy Thomason & Ashley Zangle
