The Dorian Project: 41 Artworks Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Dorian Project is a show presented by Ilan Cohen and Quang Bao through SecondGuest. Forty-one artists have been invited to create works inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray. After exhibiting at the SecondGuest location, the show will be transferred to Ana Cristea Gallery for a closing party in celebration of Oscar Wilde’s birthday.

Dorian Gray is one of literature’s sexiest conceits. By placing a portrait painting as a central character in his only published novel, Oscar Wilde illustrated the divided self in a fractured society, predicting the identity crisis as a primary preoccupation of the 20th century. The Dorian Project honors Wilde’s lasting imprint on the art world.

The exhibition features sculpture, painting, video, photography, and works-on-paper by: Óscar Astromujoff, Pau Atela, Bianca Beck, Guy Ben-Ari, Maya Bloch, Matt Bollinger, Andrew Cranston, Rudy Cremonini, TM Davy, Marta Dell’Angelo, Kerstin Drechsel, Andrej Dubravsky, Marlene Dumas, Graham Durward, Martin Eder, Eve Fowler, Nick Fox, Anthony Goicolea, Ellen Harvey, Nadia Hebson, Daniel Heidkamp, Pieter Hugo, Danny Keith, Dusan Kochol, Doron Langberg, Matt Lifson, Keith Mayerso, Sam McKinniss, Jeanette Mundt, Elizabeth Peyton, Alejandra Prieto, Gideon Rubin, Robert Russell, Refael Salem, Nicola Samori, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Niels Smits van Burgst, Mircea Suciu, Alexander Tinei, Ramon Vega and Vicky Wright.
