Jen Bekman Gallery is pleased to present I Can’t Stop Thinking About Yesterday, photographs by Kent Rogowski. I Can’t Stop Thinking About Yesterday is Rogowski’s second solo exhibition at the gallery.

Rogowski’s photographs explore the language and sensibilities that surround the drive and constructs of personal improvement, showing how this unique vernacular of “self help” acts as a portrait for the modern condition. By thematically grouping and arranging the spines and title pages of self-improvement publications, Rogowski charts the course of nearly every human emotion and experience. Patterns and contradictions emerge as the eye weaves through each title, changing from linear to circular narrative and back again—am I beginning, ending, or is it the beginning of the end? The viewer is left with the lasting question of what it means in our society to confront pain and crisis. In the fragility of heightened emotions, what are the commonalities and bonds within myriad philosophies and varying vernacular? Rogowski, by combining assorted methodologies and individual titles in harmony—unified by the flattening of the photo surface from their original book assemblage—creates a frank and ruminating chorus investigating the many fragments within the human experience.
