Reception: Saturday, November 10, 6 - 9 PM

Drawing on the concept of temperature, this exhibition brings together twelve ice-cold chillers: Jonathan Allmaier, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Tatiana Berg, Mira Dancy, Jess Fuller, Ted Gahl, Rachel Klinghoffer, Arthur Peña, Leigh Ruple, Matt Rich, Joseph Sossi, and Maria Walker.

The artists included create work that jabs its own materiality with red-hot pokers. If you can’t stand the heat, you best get out of the kitchen. Fire-walking across boundries, theses artists forge new realities between abstraction and representation.

Bask in the canopy of LEIGH RUPLE’s heat map of faceted footwork. Next, chill out with an ice-cold gem by MARIA WALKER, washy bits and teal feelings. Foggy memories and night lurkers haunt the work of TED GAHL. Playing it cool, playing for keeps. JOSEPH SOSSI returns from mossy Iceland with his tender slit quilt, crystalline forms on vintage tablecloth. A quiet riot by JESS FULLER suggests concert posters and written language. MATT RICH’s acute paper sliver is a core sample taken from a mint glacier. Pull back the curtain and enter MIRA DANCY’s sublime swamp sauna, a bewitching bliss bath. Enter the void through ARTHUR PEÑA’s austere, scorched window. JONATHAN ALLMAIER turns it up a notch. You’ll go koo koo for one of his key key paintings. TATIANA BERG serves up a couple sizzling fajitas – shaped, glazey gems and canvases that stare back. RACHEL KLINGHOFFER presents her humble totem, with frozen drippings of glam and goop. Get enveloped in KORAKRIT ARUNANONDCHAI’s hot little number.
