Rachel Rossin: Telltale

Curated by Peter Makebish Opening: Friday, October 26 | 6-10PM | Show runs: Oct 26 – Nov 6 | The Bowery Hotel Basement Annex | 4 East 3rd St

The Bowery Hotel is proud to present Rachel Rossin’s first solo exhibition, Telltale:

“You might say that part of an artist’s job description is the creation of life. But what when she of he makes work that evokes life in the supposedly inanimate? When Rachel Rossin paints, for instance, shapes made from folding the kind of brightly banded fabrics that would ordinarily be destined for homely use as house rugs or serapes this is the kind of energy – the venerable Scots word “uncanny” used to be applied precisely to this kind of life/nonlife – that she contrives to evoke. Rossin, who has been in New York just two years, studied graphic design in Florida and such of her earlier work as I have seen reflected an aesthetic in which, say, Lautrec and Schiele would be the demigod-like figures. And no bad thing at that. But this new work shows a young artist – striking out for a further shore. Sail away.” – Anthony Haden-Guest

Rachel Rossin Bio: recently exhibited work with SchoolHouse Projects, Spring/Break, The 2012 Brucennial and Charles Bank Gallery, and Fortessa da Basso in Florence, Italy. Rachel holds a BFA from Florida State University and works and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
