Lisa Cooley is thrilled to announce the first US solo exhibition by British artist, Alice Channer.

Alice Channer’s work traces the disappearance, mutation, and possible evolution of a body in post-industrial environments. Her works are made up of flat surfaces that she pleats, curves, stretches, expands and contracts to explore sculptural concerns of volume, dimension and weight. By treating the surfaces, materials and processes that make up our post-industrial environment in this way, she asks what it is to be embodied in relation to these flat places, be these technological, industrial, virtual or commercial.

Alice Channer lives and works in London. Recent solo exhibitions include Out Of Body at South London Gallery, UK (2012); Body Conscious (2011) and Worn-work (2009) at The Approach, London; Other-Directed (2011) at BolteLang in Zurich; World Class Boxing in Miami (2009); and Inhale, Exhale (2010) at the Mackintosh Gallery, Glasgow School of Art, as part of the Glasgow International. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at Whitechapel, London; Raven Row, London; Tate Britain, London; Stuart Shave Modern Art, London; Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York; Lisson, London; Hayward Gallery Touring, UK. Channer received her BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, in 2006, and an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2008. She will present a solo show at Hepworth Wakefield, UK titled Invertebrates in February 2013. Forthcoming group shows include Project Arts Centre, Dublin (curated by Anthony Huberman) and Drawing : Sculpture, Drawing Room, London (both February 2013). Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Tate, London and has featured in Artforum, Artforum.com, ArtReview, Afterall Online, Frieze, Flash Art, Guardian Unlimited, Modern Painters, Mousse, The London Evening Standard, The Observer and Time Out London.
