RH Gallery and Opalnest present Intermission 3, an event featuring 3 intense sound performances taking over both levels of the gallery. In conversation with the upcoming exhibition 13.0.0.0.0, sound artist and photographer Aki Onda will perform a collaged symphony of drones. Eli Keszler and Geoff Mullen will perform as a duo combining Geoff’s strings, sound and cassette tape manipulation with Eli’s percussion. Originally consisting of raw instrumental improvisation, their duo has grown increasingly concerned with the live performance environment itself, as well as the tension between musical development and stasis. The Ashcan Orchestra integrates the audio/visual work of composer P. Spadine and a large collection of manipulated and traditional instruments into a performance ensemble. Employing everything from hand bells, tape recorders, stacks of discarded televisions and homemade circuitry, their work creates a sense of wonder towards the physical universe.
