Leonard Tourné Gallery invites you to the opening reception of “DEW,” an exhibition of oil paintings and mixed media work by Colombian artist Juan Bernal. “My work is about the beauty of nature and the importance of simple things,” says Bernal, who now resides in New York. “Elements of nature that we usually take for granted and don’t take time to observe, like a flower, a fragment of a leaf, or the way light strikes a water droplet.”

Bernal’s work recreates these elements, placing emphasis on the geometry of nature’s designs. “It is the complexity within the simplicity,” he says. “The work constitutes an alarm to us all to preserve the environment that we are part of and that we are relentlessly destroying. Destroying nature is destroying ourselves.”

“DEW” will be on view at Leonard Tourné Gallery from November 15 to December 5. A portion of the proceeds from work sold during this exhibition will be donated to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to provide immediate aid and long-term relief and restoration in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
