Felix Dobbert was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1975. In 2004, he completed his education in photography and editorial design at the University of Duisburg-Essen (formerly known as the Folkwang School), and in 2005, Felix Dobbert established himself as one of Germany’s up-and-coming young photographers with his exhibition still under construction. Today, he lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.

His compositions baffle viewers by their uncommon perspectives and unique combinations of light and shape. Dobbert’s specialty is a modernized version of classical still life photography. Yet, in his images, the objects’ symbolic meaning is more discreet, as the images focus on the aesthetics of a composition, in which object and space inseparably develop an astonishing effect.

At times, his works seem minimalist and functional. However, through the usage of light, shadows, overlaps, and mirroring, Dobbert places shapes and matters perfectly into focus. Thus, a paper cup or a plastic knife lose their usualness and gain an unexpected artistic value.
