This is an exhibit of artists who are making art in Long Island City studios or have in the recent past.

These are painters who have created images of a Long Island City that no longer exists; the Power Plant at 5th St. and 51st Ave. with its original stacks, which is now a luxury apartment building, and the old Gantries before they were polished up and became focal points for the waterside park; not to mention the low houses and big skies.

These are painters who find inspiration in the more industrial Long Island City, which is fast disappearing, and those who prefer a more detached realm of line, texture and color. You will find people in some of the paintings doing ordinary things; other paintings encompass strange inward realities that are often expressed symbolically.

Photos of crashed cars and torn billboards eyeing us mysteriously, hanging cloth paintings on draped cloth with sewing machine stitching drawing us into the pirate’s lair, and a couple of white porcelain sea creatures that confound the imagination engage us further and energize the rooms.
